Water Products
Committed to providing effective, safer alternatives to chlorine and chemicals, MBI entered into a commercial partnership with researchers at New York State Museum to develop a product derived from a ubiquitous soil microorganism for the control of invasive zebra and quagga mussels. The result was ZEQUANOX®—the industry’s first selective, environmentally compatible molluscicide. The EPA registered ZEQUANOX in 2011 as a biological control solution for invasive mussels. Typical applications include cooling and process water systems, aquaculture, irrigation systems, etc. Future applications will include using ZEQUANOX for environmental restoration of ecosystems and recreational waters.
In addition to ZEQUANOX, MBI’s has an early stage algaecide in its development pipeline for water-applied products.
A scientific breakthrough, ZEQUANOX is a highly effective, environmentally compatible solution for controlling invasive mussels. Derived from a naturally occurring microbe, ZEQUANOX is highly selective and has been proven to be lethal to zebra and quagga mussels, without harming humans, infrastructure, non-target organisms, or the environment. ZEQUANOX is proven effective in a broad range of water conditions and temperatures, and can be used to control mussels at all stages of maturity—from veliger to adult.
