Zequanox® Sales manager

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations, the Zequanox® Sales Manager is responsible for Sales and Customer Service of Zequanox, a biological product that controls Zebra and Quagga Mussels.  The Sales Manager will also work closely with the Zequanox Project Manager, who oversees and coordinates all activities related to Zequanox.  Our customers vary from large organizations such as Bureau of Reclamation and Ontario Power Generation to individual facilities that draw water from mussel infested sources.  Our initial target market is industrial facilities (e.g. power and heavy industrial) followed by fish hatcheries and other specialty niche markets. Additional customers will include drinking water facilities and owners of open water bodies (lake associations, etc.) Infestations are widespread in Great Lakes, Midwest and west of the Rockies in North America and throughout Europe.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Present and sell Zequanox and associated services to existing and potential customers, while developing customer relationships that will benefit sales
  • Prepare action plans and schedules to identify specific targets and to project number of contacts to be made
  • Follow up on new leads and referrals
  • Identify sales prospects and contact
  • Prepare presentations proposals and sales contracts
  • Maintain and grow product knowledge
  • Work with technical team to develop case study examples and report treatment results
  • Meet budgeted sales goals
  • Attend trade shows as warranted

Knowledge and Skill requirements

  • BS in Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Environmental or Mechanical are preferred) or BS in a biological field related to water (must have a successful track record selling to industrial facilities if lacking an engineering degree)
  • Ability to persuade and influence others. Ability to develop and deliver presentations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience in chemical or equipment sales to industrial facilities, primarily power, steel and potentially drinking water
  • Extensive overnight travel  (50% or greater) will be required and a flexible schedule is needed.

Associate Research Scientist - Microbiology

Marrone Bio Innovations is a venture capital-backed company working on the discovery and development of biopesticides for unmet pest and weed management needs in organic and conventional farming and water. We are looking for a full-time ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SCIENTIST to join our energetic team in our Davis laboratory.

Duties

  • Responsible for isolation and small-scale fermentation of bacterial and fungal cultures for various bioassays used for efficacy testing
  • Coordinate and schedule flask fermentations and subsequent efficacy testing with different teams involved
  • Assist senior scientist with study design and new growth media development
  • Assist in the molecular biology work required for microbial identification
  • Collect and analyze data and report results in weekly team meetings
  • Participate in media preparation and culture collection maintenance
  • Stay current in the field of microbiology to learn new assay techniques and methods in small scale (flask) fermentation.
  • Help supervise student intern activities and direct their work flow

Requirements

A successful candidate has a B.S. or M.S. in Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Cell Biology, or related field with 2+ years of work experience. Good laboratory skills including familiarity with aseptic techniques and basic methods in microbiology and molecular biology as well as fermentation techniques are required. The candidate is expected to have good organizational and record keeping skills and the ability to work effectively in a multi-project team environment and to collaborate with colleagues to achieve goals. Experience in industrial R&D and hands-on knowledge in microbial culturing and screening methods is a plus. A pre-employment drug test is required.

Research Scientist - Analytical Chemistry

Marrone Bio Innovations is a venture capital-backed company in Davis, California, discovering and developing biopesticides for unmet pest and weed management needs in organic and conventional farming and water. We are currently looking for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST to join our natural product/analytical chemistry group. He/she will work as part of our team to extract, isolate and identify bioactive secondary metabolites and other compounds from microbial fermentation broths and plants, and to develop methods for quantitative analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of processes for the isolation, separation and purification of targeted compounds from various microbial and plant sources.
  • Assist with bioassay-guided fractionation of microbial and plant extracts to isolate and identify active fractions.
  • Assist in identification of isolated compounds using LC-MS, GC-MS, and NMR techniques
  • Develop and optimize methods for sample preparation
  • Develop, optimize and validate quantitative analytical methods for identified compounds
  • Assist in quantitative analysis of active compounds required for quality control
  • Write SOPs for sample preparation and quantitative analysis
  • Prepare laboratory notebooks, technical reports, summaries, protocols, and methods for quantitative analysis
  • Maintain personal and shared work areas and equipment in good condition and perform routine maintenance for instruments in the chemistry group

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • MS or Ph.D. degree in inorganic or organic chemistry or related field with a minimum of 2+ years of relevant work experience

Experience

  • Experience in HPLC, LC-MS, and GC-MS method development is required
  • Experience in industrial R&D is a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good knowledge in chemistry and quantitative analytical methods is essential.
  • Hands-on experience with relevant separation methods including liquid-liquid and solid-liquid extractions, fractionation, chromatography (column chromatography, preparative and analytical HPLC, GC).
  • Experience with analytical instruments & techniques including chromatographic (LC and GC) and spectroscopic methods (LC-MS, GC-MS).
  • Energetic, and self-motivated individual able to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Willing to learn and implement modern experimental techniques.

Associate Research Scientist - Formulation

Duties

  • Prepares developmental biopesticide formulations
    • Assist in the modification and preparation of test procedures
  • Performs a variety of physical chemistry and wet lab tests
    • Improvises, assembles, and maintains testing and formulation equipment
    • Records and analyzes test data obtained 
  • Prepares detailed reports on the observations and determinations made
    • Stay current in the field of formulation to learn new techniques and methods in formulation development
    • Help supervise and train student intern, as required

Requirements

A successful candidate has a B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Formulation Science, Pharmaceutical Science, or related field with 3+ years of work experience.  Experience in carrying out of the following procedures is desirable: rheometry, particle size analysis, gravimeteric analysis, microscopy, sieving, blending/mixing, wet/dry milling, coating, extrusion, lyophilization, spray drying and drum drying.  Strong skill in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.  The candidate is expected to have good organizational and record keeping skills and the ability to work effectively in a multi-project team environment and to collaborate with colleagues to achieve goals.  Specific experience in bench scale laboratory processes relevant to preparation of formulated agricultural or pharmaceutical chemical products is a plus.  A pre-employment drug test is required.

Research Scientist - Process Development

Marrone Bio Innovations is a venture capital-backed company in Davis, California, discovering and developing biopesticides for unmet pest and weed management needs in organic and conventional farming and water.  We are currently looking for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST to join our Process Development Department.  He/she will be part of our team to establish and improve the manufacturing processes of our products.

Duties

  • Participate in scale-up development of the manufacturing processes for the company's microbial products.
  • Characterize the microbial biopesticide-producing strains.
  • Participate in the yield improvement of biopesticide production in shake flask and lab fermentor cultures.
  • Participate in technical transfer of manufacturing processes to the contract manufacturing facilities, including site visit.
  • Develop a classical strain improvement program.
  • Interact with the formulation team for the development of desirable formulations for the microbial products.
  • Prepare laboratory notebooks, technical reports, summaries, protocols, and methods for characterization of microbial production strains and manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain personal and shared work areas and equipment in good condition and perform routine maintenance for instruments in the Process Development Department.

Qualifications

Education

  • Ph.D. degree in Microbiology or Biochemistry or related field with a minimum of 3+ years of relevant work experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of microbial physiology of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including filamentous bacteria, and fungi.
  • Knowledge in media development of microbial fermentation to increase biomass yield and the production of secondary metabolites.
  • Hand on experience in operating lab fermentors and scale-up production from shake flask culture to fermentor culture.
  • Experience in applying directed biosynthesis, fed-bactch and continuous culture techniques in the yields of fermentation processes.
  • Working knowledge in classical strain improvement program in improving the properties of the microbial strains.
  • Experience in technical transfer of manufacturing process to contract manufacturing facilities.
  • Energetic, and self-motivated individual able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
